Howdy!
I'm Heather, and I live in Fletcher, Vermont, where the seasons are dramatic, the neighbors wave from tractors, and the animals are constantly reminding us who’s actually in charge.
I photograph dogs and horses because they move with honesty. They don’t fake joy, and they don’t pose out of politeness. My job is to watch closely, anticipate the moment before it explodes into motion, and press the shutter at exactly the right heartbeat. Barrel turns, sled dog runs, pasture zoomies, or a quiet hand on a soft muzzle- those are the moments I chase.
I didn’t start with fancy gear. I started with a crummy 35mm film camera and a habit of photographing everything that stayed still long enough… plus a lot that didn’t. I also learned that panoramic film is expensive (sorry Mom). These days I shoot with a Nikon D500 and a Sony A7IV, and one of them is basically always within reach, because inspiration tends to arrive in barn boots, at inconvenient times. I've been at the professional game for a bit over a decade now.
Living in Vermont shaped how I work. Sessions happen in fields, along snowy trails, by muddy ponds, and sometimes in weather that would politely be described as “character building.” I don’t panic about mud on my jeans or fur out of place. I want photographs that feel like life here- imperfect, a little wild, and deeply loved.
While animal action photography is my heartbeat, I say yes to projects that tell good stories: portraits, weddings, fine art prints, and the occasional creative curveball. If it asks me to think, move, and pay attention, I’m in.
Take a wander through the galleries. If my style feels like home, reach out. I’m happy to travel, open to weird ideas, and always ready for the next adventure, whether it’s at an arena, on a mountain trail, or in a backyard where the dog has already decided who the star is.
My Non-Photography Endeavors
When I’m not behind the camera, ski when Ithere's snow, adventure when I can, and garden whenever the goats stop eating my seedlings. I'm also running our small farm, Restless Haven Homestead , with my husband and daughter. Photography is more than just a passion, it's a way I support my family, feed our herd of hungry Shetland Sheep, and stay connected with the world around me.
I also love to teach people how to get into dog-powered sports and offer mentorships and lessons!
